SHILLONG, DEC 6: As many as 11 Bangladeshi nationals of whom 4 are minors were apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) from a village near the Indo-Bangla border in South Garo Hills District on Wednesday.
The Bangladeshi Hindu nationals were nabbed during a checking conducted by the BSF troops on vehicles plying on the National Highway-62 from Baghmara to Tura, BSF officials said on Thursday.
The apprehended persons have been identified as Nirmal Sarkar (34), Pronoy Dey(23) Sapan Barman (33), Kabi Ranjan Dey (25), Nupur Talukdar (22), Suma Sarkar (25), Kana Rai (20), and one Indian Tout namely Manmohan Majumdar (48) R/o Distt Cooch Behar.
The four other minors are between the age from two to five years.
Indian currency Rs 8,000 and BD currency – 47,000 Taka alongwith other personal belongings were also seized from their possession.
According to the officials, these Bangladesh nationals are residents of Netrakona and Sunamganj of Bangladesh. It may be mentioned that Baghmara is very close to the International Border.
They further pointed out that due to non-existence of Indo-Bangladesh border fence at many places, at times Bangladeshi nationals illegally enter into Indian Territory taking advantage of thick vegetation.
Stating that at present, just before General Election in Bangladesh, a tense situation has been prevailing and under these circumstances minority communities are seemingly feeling insecure in Bangladesh, the BSF said, “These Hindu Bangladeshis were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory through unfenced jungle area for further safe passage.”
During the questioning of tout i.e Manmohan Majumdar, it was revealed that he exfiltrated into Bangladesh one week before and there onwards he contacted all Bangladeshi nationals with the help of one BD national namely Sukumar Dayal Hajong, R/o – Nayankandi, PS – Kalmakanda, Distt – Netrakona (BD).
After reaching Bangladesh he contacted willing Hindus who want to come with him to settle in India. He is one of the most wanted persons in Bangladesh who always used to go to into Bangladesh for motivation of Hindus for migration.
Bangladesh Police/BGB has arrested him previously also. He also confessed that he was residing in Kalmakanda, Nayabazar in Bangladesh since 17 years.
The apprehended Hindu Bangladeshies confessed that they have relatives who are already residing in Cooch behar (India).
Apprehended persons and seized items handed over to concern department for further legal action.
