SHILLONG, DEC 4: The special court which was formed by the state government to try cases of arson during the ILP agitations has given the ngos and its leaders one month’s time for filing written statements in cases that they have been alleged to be involved. The special court of first class judicial magistrate R Rymbai fixed January 7 as the last date for filing written statements by the leaders of the ngos.
The special court begun its hearing against 28 leaders of 14 pressure groups in a damage suit filed by state government political department under secretary B Khongwir. However, only CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and general secretary W Thabah- who distanced themselves from the ILP agitation- appeared before the special court on Tuesday.
The Meghalaya government has filed damage suit of Rs 31.09 crore against the pro-ILP ngos and its leaders for damages to public properties during the ILP agitations.- By Our Reporter
31 crore is nothing compared to the corruption by the govt. Maybe some of it can be paid by putting ministers, govt officials and other govt employees on trail.
