SHILLONG, JUNE 17: The court of Special Judge (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) convicted a woman Suman Deb and sentence her to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for her involvement in peddling drugs in the city.
The June 13 order issued by the court convicted Deb and sentence her to 10 years imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. The court said that in case of default of the payment she will further have to undergo simple imprisonment of one year for her offence under section 22 (c) of NDPS Act.
Deb, a residence of Lapalang was arrested by the Shillong police from Rynjah on April 28, 2010, while she was trying to sell a packet of Spasmoproxyvon. Subsequently, the police conducted a raid at her residence from where consignments of narcotic drugs were recovered.
Accordingly, a case under the provision of NDPS Act was registered and after thorough investigation, the case was charge sheeted and the accused was tried in the court of Special Judge.
The case was investigated by then SI Subir Sangma now PI Khliehriat court assisted by WP SI HP Lytan. The investigation was duly supervised by the then Dy SP (crime) Vivek Syiem, who is presently the East Khasi hills SP (city).- By Our Reporter
