SHILLONG, JULY 31: Irked by the forest department advertisement allowing “displaced persons from East Pakistan” (Bangladesh) to apply for the post of assistance conservator of forest, the KSU had demanded the removal of the objectionable clause.
The Meghalaya Forest department had recently floated advertisement to the above post through the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) which also allowed the displaced people from East Pakistan to apply for the said posts.
The advertisement verbatim stated, “Applications from citizens of India who are bonafide residents of Meghalaya will be considered. Displaced persons from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) permanently residing in Meghalaya or intending to reside permanently in Meghalaya, possession Indian citizenship certificate, may also apply.”
This immediately stirred a controversy with the KSU president Daniel Khyriem handed over a letter on Wednesday to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) saying, “We fail to understand the logic behind this condition put forth by the department in the advertisement.”
Khyriem has demanded a clarification from the PCCF as to why this condition was inserted in the application form.
Khyriem said the KSU views this unfortunate and mischievous act to be the handiwork of certain unwanted elements working against the interest of the indigenous people and provoking the sentiments of the local unemployed youth of the state.
Khyriem demanded that the department must immediately withdraw the objectionable condition in the advertisement warning that if it fails the KSU will be forced to take its own course of action for the interest and welfare of the indigenous people of the state.- By Our Reporter
