SHILLONG, APR 30: The counting of votes for the election to the Williamnagar Assembly seat will begin at 8 am on Tuesday amid tight security, state’s chief electoral officer (CEO) Frederick Roy Kharkongor today said.
Polling for the seat was conducted in 58 polling stations on April 27 which recorded 78.82 percent of voter turnout.
Williamnagar, a constituency in East Garo Hills District, is presently being represented by opposition Congress legislator Deborah C Marak.
The election to Williamnagar was countermanded following the killing of former NCP candidate Jonathone N Sangma in an IED attack before the just concludedFebruary 27 – Assembly general elections.
The NCP has fielded Jonathone’s wife Krinilla Marak as its candidate.
The other seven candidates in the fray include NPP candidate, Marcuise Marak, Mahamsing M. Sangma (UDP), Santosh R. Marak (BJP), and four Independents – Sengbath R. Marak, Lahatson N. Marak, Siljong R. Marak, and Jan N. Arengh.
