SHILLONG, OCT 27: In an effort to create awareness for maximizing enrollment of voters and greater electoral participation, the South West Garo hills district administration organized the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Campaign at Ampati Multi Facility Centre on Monday.
The programme drew good response with participation from teachers, students of various colleges, schools and coaching institutions. Slogan writing competition was also organized as part of the campaign.
In her brief address to the gathering, additional deputy commissioner in-charge election HDB Sangma gave a comprehensive explanation about the electoral process and emphasized the need to enroll names in the electoral roll, while one of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) highlighted the role and duties of the BLO. EAC (Election), Ampati Florina Boro also spoke on the occasion among others.
The programme also included short experience sharing by a senior citizen and a young voter who voted for the first time in the last parliamentary elections, 2014. Later, posters and pamphlets with regard to guidelines of the electoral process were also distributed.
A similar programme is also being organized at Acheng Rangmanpa College, Mehendraganj on Tuesday.- By Our Reporter
