TURA, NOV 4: On Tuesday villagers form Ampati, a village located in South West Garo hills, got to feast on colourful and vibrant dances from eight north eastern states as artists from these states showcase their traditional dances.
The dances are part of the three day event- Discover North East – Meghalaya leg- organised by North East Cultural Centre (NEZCC), ministry of culture. It kick started on Tuesday as people from Ampati and Tura got to watch such rich traditional dances. It also set the mood for the onset of winter in Garo hills, where festival and concerts are a ‘hallmark’.
“The festival aims to reach out to different states capitals and rural areas of the North East to showcase the rich and diverse dance forms, which deserves higher appreciation and respect”, said joint director of NEZCC, Talinokcha.
He also informed the gathering that the event will make the people of the region understand each other in a better way, which in turn will strengthened the bond of different ethnic communities. The event also showcased two popular bands of Meghalaya – Restless Desire and 4th Element.
The main attraction of the festival is choreographed folk dance, which is being held at Tura on November 5.- From Our Correspondent
