SHILLONG, SEPT 2: After the reported outbreak of Vector Borne diseases like chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis, dengue and malaria in West Garo hills and in certain localities of Tura town, the Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board has directed all the market committees, development committees and the motor garage owners to carry out mass cleanliness drives on environmental sanitation within their respective working places.
The motor workshop owners in particularly, have been urged to remove the abandoned and unused tyres immediately which happened to be one of the favourite breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
In a separate notice, the Chief Executive Officer issued directions to stop rearing of pigs in the residential compounds within municipal areas stating it not only causes nuisance and poses health hazards to neighbours but also pigsty could be potentially responsible for outbreak of Japanese encephalitis and other deadly parasitic vector borne diseases.-By Our Reporter
