UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday said the decision of the United Democratic Party and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party to work together under the banner of the regional democratic alliance (RDA) will no doubt ensure victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said that in any kind of competition there is always a fight and the experience in the past was that whenever there is a division between UDP and HSPDP, the other political parties, especially the national parties, will always win the seat.
“If you look at many elections in the past when you combine the vote share of the regional parties, they are always ahead and always stand number one and by experience, facts and figures speak about when it comes to working together the UDP and HSPDP always take the seat,” he said.
Lyngdoh said that the UDP and the HSPDP under the banner of RDA today have officially introduced Robertjune Kharjahrin as its candidate from Shillong seat.
“This time I am very convinced to give you a message that from the UDP and HSPDP, all the elected members, all the party functionaries and office bearers with one voiced have agreed in principle with Robertjune Kharjahrin as our candidate under the banner of RDA,” he said.
When asked about VPP, Lyngdoh said they welcome other regional parties to work together with the UDP and HSPDP.
“Now as most of the people in the state have realized that there is no point to having 2-3 regional parties in the state and most people have decided to go with one party,” he added.
