TURA, AUG 4 : Two coal laden trucks were seized by officials of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Monday from a forest check gate at Rongkhon, near Phulbari in West Garo Hills.
Despite the continuing ban by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on rat hole mining and transportation of coal pending reports of the committee reconstituted recently, the two trucks bearing number AS 01 – EC 0360 and ML 09 A – 6033 were found to be carrying coal.
The patrolling officials on duty on the Dadengre – Phulbari route stopped the trucks and found that they were transporting coal despite the NGT ban.
The GHADC officials revealed that the coal consignment was for one Enamul Islam, a resident of Chibinang in West Garo hills, which is about 105 km from Tura.- From Our Correspondent
