Shillong, Oct 8:With the approval of the Transparent Recruitment Policy (TRP) by the government, the Meghalaya police is now all set to conduct recruitment using advance technologies for more than 1200 vacancies even as “special teams” will be deputed to interior areas to provide assistance to aspiring candidates from the remote rural areas of the state
“Nepotism” during the police recruitment might well be a thing of the past as the TRP will ensure transparency in the recruitment system. .
Meghalaya Director General of Police N Ramachandran told reporters Monday, “We will be conducting recruitments to the posts of Unarmed Branch and Armed Branch constables and allied posts in the department through the ‘transparent recruitment process (TRP).”
Ramachandran informed the introduction of TRP is to eliminate any suspicious of corruption or nepotism in the recruitment process and to ensure that the police department gets the best candidate suitable for the post.” He said, “We will ensure a recruitment process that is ethical, just and transparent.”
Stating that the all recruitments will involve the use of technological innovations to ensure objectivity and accuracy, Ramachandran said, “A document will be given to each candidate at the end of every test, indicating his performance and score in each test. The result of every day’s tests will also be uploaded on the departmental website on a daily basis.”
With the introduction of TRP, Meghalaya government has done away with the traditional way of recruitment.
Now there will only be race in the physical efficiency test where male candidates will be required to complete 10 km race in a minimum of 60 minutes while 5.5 km race in less than 40 minutes for female candidates. “The accurate timings and scores achieved by each candidate will be recorded based on RFID tags tied to the legs of the candidates, which will directly convey the scores to the computer. The exact scores will also be communicated to each candidate on the spot,” Ramachandran said.
Elaborating more, Ramachandran informed that the written examinations will be based on multiple choice questions and answers which are to be marked on OMR pattern so that the evaluations will be done by computerized scanners. “The results of written examinations will be published on the website on the same day,” he added.
On the personal interviews, Ramachandran informed that five members of the board will separately assign marks based on objective considerations and the final score will be conveyed to the candidates on the same day.
However, five bonus marks will be given to candidates belonging to the categories of Home Guard Volunteer, holder of ‘B’ and ‘C’ NCC certificates, children of non-gazetted police personnel of the state and sports persons who have represented the state at the national level.
There are 739 vacant posts under the unarmed branch while a total of 503 in the armed branch. Another 56 persons will be recruited as followers.
“Female candidates will be allowed to compete equally with men for all posts of UB constables except for armed branch, only 25 per cent of the posts are reserved for women candidates,” Ramachandran informed.
Encouraging youths from rural areas of the state to join the police , Ramachandran said, “A special team will be deputed to interior areas to help and guide the people in filling up the forms and make them aware of the recruitment process.”
The application forms which cost Rs 50 will be made available from October 15 from the offices of the all the district SPs and Commandants of MLP Battalions and the Principal PTS Shillong. The forms can be submitted before November 15 to these offices or directly sent to Member Secretary, Central Recruitment Board– By Our Reporter
