TURA,FEB 11: Meghalaya police on Thursday arrested three civilian GNLA cadres from Siju Wathre area, near Nongal in South Garo Hills. The cadres are – Kancha, Hinen and Limbu. “The cadres were working under the command of Rakkam, finance secretary of the outfit”, said GHP Raju, inspector general of police (operations).
Police said that the three civilian cadres were involved in relaying information to the outfits about police movement in the area. “These civilian cadres collected mobile phone numbers of businessmen from Nongal, Jadigittim, Wathre and Siju areas and passed on the information to the outfit”, Raju added.
On interrogation, they have revealed that the GNLA paid them Rs. 3000 for every successful extortion and kidnapping.
Militant fired in the air: Police said that suspected militant today fired in the air at Mangsang market in East Garo Hills. Following which, the police launched an operation and gun downed a rebel identified as Mickin Arengh, 38.-By Our Reporter
