SHILLONG, SEPT 19: A five day training workshop on orienting Master Trainers of Meghalaya on Teaching-Learning of Science and Mathematics at Secondary Level held at North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE)in Umiam concluded on Friday.
The program was jointly coordinated by RMSA-SEMAM, Meghalaya government and NERIE.
Speaking on the occasion, state education secretary FR Kharkongor underlined the importance that his department was giving to the teaching-learning of science and mathematics both at elementary and secondary level.
Kharkongor shared the findings of National Achievement Survey (NAS), which lauded the performance of students of Meghalaya in applied mathematics. He stressed the need to harness their innate potential to improve the teaching-learning environment in science and mathematics in Meghalaya.
He exhorted teachers to make learning effective and joyful in the classroom.
Prof MK Mishra highlighted the importance of pedagogy in science and mathematics and emphasized the paradigm shift that has taken place where teaching in the conventional sense is minimal while learning is maximum.
Faculty members of Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT), DIETs and schools from across the state participated in this training program.
During the valedictory program, Kharkongor also released a Heritage Kit developed by RMSA, Government of Meghalaya.
The purpose of this kit was to make children appreciate the culture, values and traditions of the people of Meghalaya. These kits will be distributed to children.
He presented the first heritage kit to Prof. MK Mishra as a gift from RMSA, Meghalaya to NERIE.- By Our Reporter
