In a statement issued here, ASWA general secretary Harley Davidson N Sangma said, “This kind act of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma within the five days period from the date of issuing of ultimatum has won our heart and we will not be required to launch agitation programmes regarding the very admission issue that was presently prevailing.”
He informed that this positive response from the part of the government was informed to association by the Principal of Tura Govt College, Tura on Tuesday, being the last day of the deadline.
“He (principal) informed that they have been instructed to allow all the students who have duly applied for admission in the college to take admission without further delay,” he said.
In view of the admission problem becoming an annual affair, Harley however said that it is time for the government as well as the college authority to take important steps so that such problem does not arise again in coming years.
The infrastructure, teaching, non-teaching staff must be increased if it is not sufficient presently, he said.
He also suggested that the government should sanction sufficient funds for the development of the college to ensure that quality education is maintained even though hundreds of students are admitted in a class.
“We hope that Chief Minister would do it without any hesitation as even the budget (as per the Meghalaya budget session 2017) for the education department was much more in this financial year,” he added.
