SHILLONG, APR 2: Sixty Meghalaya legislators have been requested by the state government to adopt one village under their constituency and replicated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious village adoption scheme for MPs — the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).
Thought the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) is still at its primary stage in Meghalaya and four villages have so far been identified under this particular scheme, but the state government thought it fit to send letter to all the sixty legislator of the Meghalaya assembly requesting them to identify one village under their constituency for adoption.
Community and Rural Development minister Prestone Tyngsong told reporters on Thursday, “The village adoption scheme is still in its primary stage in Meghalaya but committees for its implementation have been constituted and are headed by the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the state with the deputy commissioners appointed as Member Secretary.”
Tyngsong informed that the committees are still preparing the master plan for implementation of the scheme and said four model villages have been identified of which three are in Tura, West Garo Hills, Shangpung in West Jaintia Hills and Mordon in Ri Bhoi District.
Tyngsong informed that the master plan is expected to be finalized by September this year and work will immediately started.
Informing that the Prime Minister had also encouraged MLA to adopt the scheme, Tynsong said, “Based on this, we have sent letters to all the 60 MLAs of Meghalaya to also identify model villages in their respective constituencies.”
According to Tynsong, the objective of the Model Village Scheme is broad which cover issues like road connectivity, health facilities, education, economic livelihood, sanitation and others.- By Our Reporter
