SHILLONG, MAY 7: Meghalaya government assured adequate security to all central government offices including financial institutions operating in the state to ensure the employees come to work during the the proposed four-day “shutdown” called given by Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) from Thursday.
The HNLC has given a four-day shutdown call of all government (both state and central) offices from May 8, 9, 12, and 13, demanding the immediate unconditional release of five persons including Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) president, who were arrested recently for their alleged nexus with the outfit.
Meghalaya acting chief secretary PBO Warjri had convened a meeting with the central government and financial institutions officials on Wednesday to ensure that employees of their office attend works during the shutdown.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the different central government offices and financial institutions.
Warjri informed that the state government told them things are normal and expects that all institutions should function normally. He said representatives of central government offices and financial institutions gave positive response.
The state government also issued directions to all employees to attend offices and ensure work go on normally failing which they will be “penalized”.
Warjri warned, “When employees are absent without reason, it will be treated as “unauthorized” and we will ensure that we will strictly follow as per the rules and norms laid down.” – By Our Reporter
