Shillong, Oct 16: Twenty one years old Toshabor Singh Nongbet from Shillong is all set to blend Hindi music with “operatic songs” for the first time ever while competing with thirty-five other contestants from the country in the “semi-finals” of the “India’s Got Talent – Season 4” on October 21.
“With his unique “operatic performances”, Toshan has made his way to reach the semi finals. The show will be telecasted by the colors channel on Sunday,” Aroha Musical and Cultural Society (AMCS) president Pauline Warjri told reporters at a news conference Tuesday.
However for Toshanbor, lovingly known as “Toto” to many, it all started with a joke to take part in the reality show.
“It all started with a “joke” for me till I finally decided to give it a shot. After clearing several auditions from one level to another finally am here,” Toshan said while sharing a bit of how he started his journey.
Toshan – a student of Aroha Music School is an unusually gifted singer as he has rare ability to sing in very different genres. He can switch between classical, jazz or pop styles with amazing ease.
He said, “I started singing at a very young age. I fell in love with “opera” and want to bring a change through it,” adding “In the coming semi finals, I propose to bring a different style by mixing opera and Hindi music. Though am not fluent in Hindi but am ready to take the challenge.”
Warjri in addition said, “For the first time someone is trying to bring about such a different take to the world of music by blending the two (opera and Hindi music) together.”
The AMCS director further informed that the voting lines would only open after the show is over. “Meghalaya and indeed the whole North east have a talent that we can proud of,” Warjri said.
Warjir appealed to the people of the state and NE region to vote for Toshan in the semi-finals which will help him to go the next level that is the grand finale. People can sms the code name of Toshan which is “TOS” to “256882”.
Answering a query on the publicity campaign, Warjri said, “We are preparing to hold campaigns through road shows, posters, billboard and others starting from Meghalaya and other NE states to garner public support.” – By Our Reporter
