Search and rescue operation for missing ragpicker has been suspended for today due to low visibility, officials said on Monday.
“The operation will commence tomorrow at 9 am,” they said.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar informed that the missing person is yet to be found.
“We are yet to find whether the body is there or not. The family members of the missing person have requested us to again try to locate the body…so that we are considering,” he said.
Asked, the deputy CM said, “We are confused whether the person really fell in (the garbage) or not as we are yet to know as till today no body was found.”
“My officers and staff will again continue (the operation) tomorrow and we will coordinate with the family (of the missing person),” he said while adding “We don’t know whether the incident is there or not as nobody saw (when it happened). (They only say that) he used to come there everyday to collect scraps. We are unable to say exactly what is what. Kindly bear with us our officials are working hard to find out whether the incident actually took place there or not.”
Dhar further informed that he had told the Director of Urban Affairs to provide the number of the missing person to the police so that they can track it to know where he was at the time of the incident.
“Nobody can say that he is inside the garbage. That is why we keep digging the garbage. Let us see first after a few days,” he said.
