Shillong, August 18 : Inaugurating the Vivekananda Centre for Youth Counselling at the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the purpose of launching such centres is to ensure that we have a vibrant new generation which is capable of contributing towards the growth of this vibrant nation.
Sangma said, “It should be our sincere dream and a shared objective that we do all that is necessary to ensure that each and every child of this great nation is provided the kind of support and opportunity to equip themselves with knowledge and wisdom.”
Sangma expressed happiness that a beginning in this regard has been made for the youth to equip themselves with knowledge, wisdom and skill to ensure that they find themselves fit to occupy jobs and take advantage of opportunities available to them not only within the boundaries of Meghalaya, not only within the boundaries of the North East region, not only within the boundaries of our great nation, but beyond.
Sangma informed that the most talked about thing in this world today in the global context is regarding India and China. The growth of these two countries with populations of over a billion which serves as huge manpower. There is often comparison between India and China and there is optimism when you talk about India because of its population structure – a population structure in which India has more than triple the youth population of China.
Sangma, however, cautioned that only if this young population is enlightened, productive and capable of contributing towards the growth of the nation can India develop faster than China.
Speaking about the government he said, “If you have a bad government and bad leaders, don’t blame the leaders, we have to share the responsibility.” He said all are equally responsible for a given situation. “Leaders don’t elect themselves; we are elected by the people. That is the beauty of this democracy which lies on how enlightened the people and the youth are in making correct decisions.
Sangma expressed his happiness that Ramakrishna Mission is one organisation which has through the years been engaged in social transformation and extended his sincere gratitude and appreciation for all the services rendered by Ramakrishna Mission in Meghalaya. He urged the students present at the gathering to work as hard as their parents who are struggling to earn a bit of money and thereby ensure that their children get educated, become enlightened, productive and successful members of the society.- By Our Reporter
