Shillong, August 24: Sacred Heart Girls’ Higher Secondary Friday won the inter-school debate competition on the topic “Railway Line to Benefit the State held to commemorate the Youth Hostel Association raising day.
Speaking as the chief guest, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope stressed on the importance of road connectivity. He said, “The lifeline of our state is the road and with the progress in the revolution of telecommunication, dual carriage is gaining importance for the future development.”
Pyngrope said that the debate on the railway line ‘will shed a lot of light on the convenience of travelling, making the world a smaller place.’
Four schools took part in the debate which was held at the premises of the Youth Hostel Shillong with three judges from the media fraternity.
Debators for and against the motion showed their skills at debating, pointing out each argument and countering with reasonable arguments making the competition a meaningful one.
Citing reason for not inviting the judges from any political level, government or NGOs, organizing committee Secretary K Khongjirem said, “The media persons are the right people to judge this debate because they are neutral.”-By Our Reporter |
