Shillong, Nov 1: Five people belonging to different fields were given vocational awards by the Rotary Club, Orchid City for their exemplary work in their field of works.
Jiwat Vaswani (Bablu), owner of the City Hut Dhaba, Dr. Alka Kharsati, who holds a doctorate in traditional medicine, Mark Laitflang Stone, a young entrepreneur and founder of the ‘Avenues,’ David Oliver Laitphlang, a committed journalist and president of the Shillong Press Club and musician of national and international acclaim Lou Majaw.
Major General Gurpeet Singh, officiating GOC 101 handed the citations to all the five personalities at Hotel Pinewood Wednesday.
Jiwat Vaswani was born into a humble business family. His family has for the last eight decades been an integral part of the Shillong community serving selflessly to enhance the image of the city.
Dr. Alka Kharsati, who holds a doctorate in traditional medicine and is general secretary of the Society Promotion of Indigenous Knowledge and Practice was rewarded for her dedication to the indigenous way of curing. She had been invited by former President APJ Abdul Kalam, who recognized her inherent talent.
Mark Laitflang Stone, a young entrepreneur and founder of the ‘Avenues’ was rewarded from bringing in changes in the lives of the youth of not only Meghalaya, but the Northeast as a whole.
David Oliver Laitphlang, a committed journalist and president of the Shillong Press Club dedicate the award to all his fellow journalists.
Last but not the least musician of national and international acclaim Lou Majaw for his contribution to music in the region.- By Our Reporter
