GHADC member from Rongrong constituency Rinaldo K Sangma on Wednesday sought the intervention of the education minister Rakkam A Sangma for the immediate setting up of a government college in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills.
In a memorandum submitted to Rakkam in his office chamber, Rinaldo said that despite a decade’s longevity from being upgraded to a full-fledged district, North Garo Hills is home to only one higher educational institution which is the Mendipathar (deficit) college, catering to only Arts stream and accommodates only few students in one academic session.
Annually, over 1500-2000 students are passing their SSLC and HSSLC examinations but due to the unavailability of an institution, they are compelled to become dropouts as they can no longer pursue their higher education, he said.
He said that North Garo Hills also registered lowest in terms of the pass percentage at 28.45% for SSLC examination and 65.45 % for HSSLC.
“Therefore, I (urge) upon your benevolence to initiate steps in adding impetus for the establishment of a state-run government college in Resubelpara,” Rinaldo stated in the letter.
