TURA, JUNE 16: Rodrigo E. Martinez, a management engineer, associated with AECOM India Pvt. Ltd based in Garo Hills passed away at his residence in Tura yesterday. He died of a sudden cardiac arrest.
Highly experienced in leading site teams in construction supervision of a number of highways and bridges, the 72-year-old resident of Philippines Martinez was supervising road construction activities of Garobadha to Dalu stretch in West Garo Hills.
He was given the task of team leader in 2013 for the project, which is funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB). Martinez has been working on several ADB funded projects in India for the past 10 years.
Prior to his assignment in Garo hills, he was leading a team in Assam.
In Assam, Martinez was associated with the construction of Kalitakuchi to Barpeta road (54 kms road), Bilasipara to Fakiragram (16.2 kms road), Tamulpur to Paneri (43 kms road) and Paneri to Udalguri (18.6 kms road).
The staffs of AECOM paid last respect to Martinez and his body was flown to Kolkatta from Guwahati this afternoon. His body is being taken to his native town in Philippines.
Martinez had 42 years of professional experience, out of which 39 years in projects involving road and bridge design and construction.
In the past 28 years, he has worked in the capacity of senior resident engineer, resident engineer, project manager for projects involving both multi-lane and two lane highways using latest construction equipment and techniques.-From Our Correspondent
