SHILLONG, MAY 4: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Wednesday urged the East Khasi hills district administration to release the rice quota which was not distributed for last two months.
FKJGP also demanded immediate construction of proper latrines and keeping of dustbins outside the office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
“We have urged the district authority to release the rice quota which is loaded in the godown of the whole-sellers for nearly two months,” FKGJP organizing secretary Marbud Dkhar told reporters after a meeting deputy commissioner PS Dkhar on Wednesday.
He said that the wholesellers had expressed concern over the issue because of fear that the stock might get rotten if it is kept for long and not distributed to the beneficiaries.
When asked, Dkhar said the reason cited by the deputy commissioner was due to the implementation of the national food security act (NFSA).
“He (DC) has assured that he would convened a meeting with all the wholesellers and ensure that the rice would be released immediately,” he said.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP leader said that the DC has also assured to send officials to identify location where the public latrine and dustbin can be installed outside the FCI office.
According to him, the demand is made as large number of trucks are parked outside the office of the FCI.
He informed that due to non-availability of proper latrine, dustbins and the presence of the drivers and handymen of these FCI trucks, the area have become eyesore for passerby.-By Our Reporter
