Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday informed that the rehabilitation of over 200 hawkers and street vendors, who are currently running their businesses in Khyndailad area, will be completed within the next couple of weeks.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “We will ensure that whatever relocation plan that was discussed in the past, that will be suitably reaffirm, we should be able to see this through within the next couple of weeks.”

Asked, he said, “Within 15 of August, we will be able to see it through, but I will again seek final word from the deputy CM incharge of urban affairs because it is under the minister concerned.”

The exercise is necessary to make Khyndailad as a ‘pedestrian zone’ and as a ‘music hub’ – to welcome tourists and visitors to Shillong, also known as the music capital of India.
