Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma has asked the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) to give their views and suggestions instead of criticizing in regards to the education sector.
“Instead of criticizing, I request them to come and share with us their ideas and views. I want to request our VPP friends if they have any suggestion or any advice for me or the department or government we welcome,” Sangma told reporters here.
On July 23, the VPP had slammed the state government for its silence on the NEHU VC’s decision to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) and had demanded the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to replace the incumbent education minister citing that “he seems to be “clueless” to run the state education department.
Referring to the VPP leaders as educated people, Sangma said, “We expect them not only to criticize but we also expect them to suggest that as every individual be it in the opposition or in the ruling, we have a sense of responsibility to serve and contribute…”
Stating that Shillong is known as the education hub of the country, the minister said, “Shillong is also the capital of North East India during pre-independence and today, we expect every expert and every academician to shoulder the responsibility together. We expect our friends from VPP to give positive suggestions if there are any because as education minister it is my endeavor to work with everybody and I will be happy to meet and discuss with them.”
He said that every political party should suggest to the government on what is best for the people and the state adding “it is not that they are in the opposition that they will always criticize”.
“Oppositions also have boundaries. If somebody says we don’t want the national education policy in the state of Meghalaya, millions will criticize them instead. So we should know our own boundaries but they should also have equal responsibility in contributing and in reshaping the entire system of the state,” Sangma further asserted.
