SHILLONG, SEPT 26: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Monday urged the state government to give wide publicity to the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) in the interest of the people of the state.
A delegation of the HYC led by its organizing secretary Donboklang Kharlyngdoh met Secretary of Health and Family Welfare MR Synrem on Monday to seek his intervention on the alleged non-functional of the MHIS smartcard.
According to the HYC leaders, several complaints were received from the members of the public mainly from Mawlai area on the matter.
However later on knowing that the problem is due to non-renewal of the smartcards, Kharlyngdoh said, “We urged the government to have wide publicity campaign on the scheme to ensure deserving beneficiaries don’t miss out on such opportunity to renew or enroll under the MHIS.”
He said that the authority concerned has also admitted that the enrollment in Mawlai area is not upto the mark. On the other hand, the HYC leader however expressed concern over the erratic functioning of the public announcement systems in many localities, which the department cannot be held responsible for.-By Our Reporter
