Prohibitory order issued

SHILLONG, APR 4: In view of the activities of certain individuals or groups resorting to fishing / catching of fish by using illegal methods during the breeding season which is likely to endanger aquatic life leading to mass destruction of local and rare species of fish, the District Magistrate, West Garo Hills District has under section 14 Cr PC has prohibited all kinds of fishing /catching of fish (that is, with use of dynamite, generators, bleaching powder, DDT / other poisonous chemicals or herbs or any other means) for the mass killing of fish during breeding period in the entire rivers and streams in West Garo Hills District.

This order will extend to the entire West Garo Hills District and shall come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
