Tura, May 25: Police in North Garo Hills today arrested prime accused Tengrak B Marak from Malchapara village in West Garo Hills in the recent murder of two brother at Bajengdoba.
The arrest follows the first arrest made a few days ago of one of the accused in the case from North Garo Hills followed by another arrest on May 22.
Tengrak, who was out on bail had along with another two accomplices brutally assaulted two brothers from Lakhipur in Assam while they were travelling along with their buffaloes near the village of Narangkol under Bajengdoba PS on May 12 at about 9 pm.
The unprovoked beatings led to the death of Aminul Islam while his brother Mostofa Ahmed was in critical state after the thrashing. The two were allegedly beaten up with bamboo sticks and rods and left for dead before being discovered by the villagers who informed the police. Mostafa later recovered from his injuries and is currently out of danger.
The gruesome murder case was one where there were immediate leads though hearsay had led the police to investigate one Sanjit G Momin who later confessed to the crime while also pointing to Tengrak and his accomplice in the incident. In the meanwhile Tengrak managed to escape from the area but was later arrested from his wife’s house in Malchapara on May 23.
The police had earlier arrested one With B Marak who was Tengrak accomplice in the act of murder. With B Marak is a resident of Narangkol, the place near where the incident took place. He was arrested on May 22 from his residence.
All three are currently in judicial custody.
