SHILLONG, MAY 9: Dorbar Shnong of Tuberkmai village in East Jaintia Hills district has demanded the setting up of a ‘police-out-post’ at Tahkhniang Wah and has even offered land to the government.
The dorbar feels if the police outpost is located in their village it will curb increasing crimes and ensure security to people of the area and the neigbouring villages.
In a letter addressed to the state home minister Roshan Warjri submitted on Friday, the village headman Embi H Sana said, “We demand immediate setting up of a ‘police-out-post’ at an identified location – Tahkhniang Wah near the National Highway – 44 in Tuberkmai village as there are increasing criminal activities in the area.”
Tuberkmai-shnong, one of the oldest villages in Jaintia Hills falls under the jurisdiction of Lad Rymbai PoliceOut Post.
Sana said places like Kongong and Tahkhniang are crime prone areas where many heinous crimes like robberies, murders, rape had taken place in the past creating a sense of insecurity to the residents of the area.
Sana justified creation of the new police outpost saying the Lad-Rymbai Police Out Post has to cover a area and many villages making it difficult to handle public grievances, crimes, maintaining of law and order and to maintaining peace.
There are around 15 villages including Tuberkmai located about 20 – 25 kilometers away from the Lad Rymbai police out post.- By Our Reporter
