TURA, SEPT 27: Meghalaya police on Tuesday busted a hideout of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in East Garo hills at around 6:30 am. Police launched the raid based on inputs on the presence of the militants at Jakopgre village, near Williamnagar.
At the hideout, police and the militants exchanged fire, which lasted for nearly 20 minute. However, no casualty is reported. Police said that some of cadres of the outfit were injured in the incident.
Police said that commander-in-chief of the outfit Sohan D Shira was also present. However, he also managed to escape.
Police recovered Chinese carbine (which looked like a Uzi), 75 detonators, cordex wire, RC circuits, GNLA documents amongst other. Two additional search teams later began search operations after the militants managed to escape into the jungle near the Jakopgre-Khakwagre area.
Few hours after the incident, a photo (selfie) of Sohan along with more than 15 of his men was posted in a Facebook page.-From Our Correspondent
