SHILLONG, APR 19: State police on Tuesday issued advisory asking the public, especially vehicle owners, to be more cautious in view of the rampant car thefts of vehicles which are in huge demand in the grey market. According to police, there has been increasing theft of Bolero Campers (Pick-up Trucks) due to their easy ability to start the engine without original key.
“It is advised that owners/drivers park their vehicles in secure places and keep their gates locked. Vehicles should not be left parked on the roadside,” East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said in a statement on Tuesday.
He also said, “They are also advised to install anti-theft devices which are easily available and affordable in the market,” adding “Owners should not leave registration papers and other documents inside the car after it is parked so as to facilitate the car thieves to easily get through check points.”
In case of theft, the SP said the owners should immediately inform Police Control Room No.2222277 if vehicle found missing and not to delay so as to be able to alert all units within and outside the state.-By Our Reporter
