PC approves further upgradation of Umroi airport

Shillong, Sept 13: The Planning Commission has accorded approval for further upgradation of the existing infrastructure of Umroi airport. Four other airports namely Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Imphal have also received approval for upgradation.

This is in addition to the ongoing works for improvement of ten airports in the NE Region.

Since the 10th plan period, the NEC has taken initiative to improve the air connectivity in the North Eastern Region. To understand the issues and problems of improvement of air connectivity in the region,

NEC has initiated a study at an estimated cost of Rs.1.87 crore through the AAI with the guidance of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the report is expected in the next six months. The report will address the issue of linking of the remote areas with helicopters and also major townships by small aircrafts.- By Our Reporter
