SHILLONG, MAR 24: Opposition UDP on Tuesday demanded payment of eight months pending salaries and redressal of the grievances of the casual workers in Ri Bhoi district.
UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh told the assembly while moving a call attention motion. “The government should proactively intervene to address the grievances for the satisfaction of all concerns,” He said for the last eight months the salaries of the casual workers of the health department in Nongpoh are yet to be released despite repeated petitions.
“This has made it difficult for these workers to make both ends meet,” Lyngdoh said while informing that these casual workers are also claiming that they are entitled for regularization under CW Scheme 1996.
In his reply, Meghalaya health minister AL Hek informed, “The proposal submitted by the Director of Health Services (MI) on February 8, is under process with Finance Department as it is required as per normal prescribed procedure for sanction by way of Re-appropriation.”
Hek promised that as soon as sanction is obtained, the same will be informed accordingly to the office of the DHS (MI) who in turn will allot the fund to the office of the DMHO, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh for making the necessary payment.
According to Hek, the proposal submitted by the DHS (MI) by way of Re-appropriation is at an expenditure not exceeding Rs 30.30 lakh under the head of account “Medical & Public Health Non-Plan” for the period with effect from August 1, 2014 up to February 2015.
Hek further assured that as regards conferment of casual workers under regular casual workers scheme, 1996, the same will be examined by the department.- By Our Reporter
