SHILLONG, SEPT 9: Meghalaya chief secretary WMS.Pariat inaugurated the newly constructed building of Fr. Joseph Arokiasamy Block, department of Fishery Science, St. Anthony’s College on Monday.
The inauguration programme held at St. Anthony’s College Auditorium was also attendedby KN Kumar, principal secretary of fisheries department, RM Mishra, principal secretary of planning department, IR Sangma, director of fisheries, Br Albert L Dkhar, principal St. Anthony’s College, Fr. D. John Jayakumar, former sirector, Mass Communication and Video Production, St. Anthony’s College, government officials teachers and students.
Inaugurating the block, Pariat said that the state aquaculture mission is one of the nine missions under the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme (IBDLP) launched by the state government to develop its human resources by enhancing their employability and income earning potential.
Pariat urged the student community to take up fish farming which has a good scope and potential in the state considering the rich natural resources and abundance of water bodies which will generate job avenues and at the same time boost the economy of the state.
The Fr.Joseph Arokiasmay Block for department of fishery science is partially funded by the Meghalaya government under the special central assistance demonstrates the efforts of the government in improving the quality of education in the state and also to train the students for self employment in the fisheries sector, Pariat said.
Pariat also released the video of the state aqua culture mission prepared by the media team of the Meghalaya Basin Development Agency.
