SHILLONG, MAY 11: NPP national vice president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday rubbished the allegations that his party has misused the revenue of the state to build itself in other states of the country.
“We are being guided by the Constitution of India. Therefore, whoever says anything hopefully before talking they need to know the rules, the procedures and the Constitution of India very well,” Tynsong told reporters while reacting strongly to the allegations made by leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
He said this is because of the fact that the Government of Assam cannot bring money here in the state of Meghalaya and Government of Meghalaya cannot take out from the budget provision of Meghalaya to invest in Manipur or to invest in other parts of the NE states.
Stating that people may talk whatever they feel like because this is an election year, Tynsong however said that the principle of the NPP is very clear.
“We will not just talk for the sake of talking about the issues like other parties trying to blame the NPP that all the revenue from the state government or Meghalaya has been transferred to other states in the NE which is totally wrong and which is totally unconstitutional.”
Tynsong however downplayed the allegation as a “slip of tongue” by the UDP leaders and said “but deep down inside I don’t think they really mean business on what they talk.”
“No I can’t say that it is backstabbing (by the UDP), I don’t say that way. That is why the NPP has already instructed our leaders and candidates to restrain from making allegations not only to partners in the MDA but even to our main political opponent as we need to understand when we talk we talk facts and we talk things which are justified,” he said.
Claiming that the MDA government is intact, the NPP leader said, “We respect each other and all the parties within the MDA we respect each other and we will not allow, we will not give any room for blaming each other even in the future.”
When asked who will be NPP’s closest rival in 2023 following the downfall of the Congress in Meghalaya, Tynsong said, “If you talk about a political battle which is going to happen very soon in Meghalaya it depends constituency to constituency.”
“You can’t say that NPP alone or UDP alone or Congress alone or other parties alone as here in Meghalaya, the voters they will not vote in your favor on the basis of party lines what they will do they vote you on the basis of being well known friend or on the basis of whom I trusted so much because of this – the party line comes later but firstly is the candidate himself. Be it from any political party he stood for, the voters will give a final decision on this,” he stated.
