SHILLONG, APR 6: The State Cabinet today approved the appointment of a senior Supreme Court advocate as the new Advocate General of the state.
Informing this after the meeting here on Friday, Minister in-charge Law James K Sangma said Amit Kumar, who is a senior advocate from the Supreme Court, has been appointed as the Advocate General of the state.
Earlier, there has been a demand from the local NGO that the AG should be appointed from among the local senior advocates in the state.
Asked, Sangma however said that the appointment has been made on the basis of merit adding that Amit is also a member of the bar association of the High Court here and has good track records.
“We are confident that his service will bring a lot of advantage for the state government,” he added.
