SHILLONG, MAY 26: North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), a premiere institute in the north eastern region, celebrated its 41st University Day at the Use Convention Hall in its campus on Monday.
NEHU pro vice chancellor Prof B Myrboh told the gathering who came to celebrate the university 41st anniversary though the university is still young compared to others in the country, but in its 41 years of journey the institute has been able to cater to the needs and interests of the students’ community coming from different parts of the north eastern region.
Prof Myrboh said the purpose of setting up the university was to bring out the best in the students which in future will contribute to the human resources of the nation.
Prof Myrboh also urged the staffs of the university, both teaching and non-teaching, to work hard in order so that the institute grows and prosper.
Stating that NEHU has matured into an institution with a serious academic and social and cultural agenda and a clear vision for its future growth, Prof Myrboh said the students of the university are capable of taking up challenges and competing with other universities in the region and country in general.
Prof Myrboh said the students have done well in life after leaving the university. Many have been taken into the Central Civil Services, Banking Services and into the University system.
Later, Prof Myrboh also presented the appreciation award to staffs of the Shillong and Tura campuses as a mark of recognition of their contribution to the institution.
At present there are fifty-three undergraduate colleges affiliated to the university including eight professional colleges
The number of students doing their Master’s degrees and research scholars working for their M.Phil and Ph.D degrees is close to 1700.
The undergraduate colleges affiliated to the university enroll about 18,000 students. The university’s faculty strength is just over 300. .- By Our Reporter
