Mukul promise adhoc teachers’ salary hike

SHILLONG, JUNE 3: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Friday assured that the state government is considering hiking the salaries of over 2000 teachers of adhoc government recognized secondary schools within this year.

The assurance was given  to a delegation of the teachers under banner of the Federation of All Meghalaya Adhoc Secondary School Teachers Association (FAMASTA) which met Sangma on Friday.

FAMASTA has been demanding hundred percent hike in the salary of adhoc secondary school teachers in the state.

“He (CM) assured that within this year the salaries of the teachers will be hiked,” FAMASTA  president Bina Kharumnuid told reporters after the meeting.

There are 2352 teachers teaching in 434 adhoc government recognized secondary schools across the state.

According to her, the state government had enhanced the salary of the teachers from Rs 1800 to Rs 10,000 since the association was formed in 1998. But after that the government has not enhanced the salary affecting the economic status of the teachers, she said.

When asked, Kharumnuid informed that the FAMASTA expects the state government to hike the salary of all teachers, including the Hindi teachers who are paid only a meagre of Rs 3500, to Rs 20,000 along with allowances.”

She said the hike is necessary because of the high inflation rate.
