More dental doctors

SHILLONG, MAR 10: The state government on Thursday said it is exploring all possibility to accommodate dental doctors in the health centres of the different districts in the state.

“The government is not just keeping silent. We are doing our job and we are definitely exploring all possibility to accommodate all those passed doctors,” health minister AL Hek told the assembly on Thursday.

He was replying to a motion moved by Independent South Tura legislator John Leslee Sangma on the failure of the state government to provide employment to bonded dental surgeons.

Hek also assured that the government will make all efforts to ensure some new posts are created so as to cover all PHCs and CHCs in order to render dental services in the state.

Earlier, Sangma informed that the number of unemployed dental doctors have gone up to 33.

“Some of them have passed out since nine years ago. What kind of message is the government sending to the youths who are going for further studies,” he said.

He said, “The government should take steps to put things in order so that our children who have worked so hard are suitably rewarded with a job.”

Demanding the government to pulled up its socks, he said, “The passed doctors should be accommodated accordingly with their year of passing out and let this government show to the world and prove to the people of Meghalaya that it can deliver.”

Meanwhile, Hek further informed that as of now the department have got sanctioned post of 64 of dental surgeons and all have been filled up in the regular manner.

Out of 64 posts, one post at grade-II level has been upgraded to grade-I and the 15 posts of grade – III level have been upgraded to grade-II level.

“These posts have been filled up by way of promotion issued recently thereby leaving only 48 posts of dental surgeons at the grade-III level,” he said.

According to him, proposal of creation of some new posts for dental surgeons were moved by the department from time to time.

“However, sometimes we are facing problems for the sanctioning of the posts due to financial constraints but the government is determined to sanction all vacant posts,” he said.

Hek also informed ten posts were also initially created in view of the urgency to accommodate the passed out students (both bonded & non-bonded), in the different PHCs – Jongsha, Kynshi, Pariong, Rymbai, Shangpung, Kyrdem, Samanda, Dabu and Siju.

“Approval of the planning and finance departments is awaited on this regard,” he added.

During 2010, the MPSC has recommended for appointment of 19 dental surgeons.

However, out of this appointment could be given to only to 12 of them thereby leaving 7 dental surgeons due to non-availability of sanction posts. By now, the result has also lapsed since its over by more than five years, he stated.- By Our Reporter
