SHILLONG, FEB 18: The valedictory function of the ten days workshop on the “Training of Trainers on Reproductive Health and Life Skills Education for Youth”, which began on 8th February ended on Thursday at the campus of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU).
A total of 26 faculty from MLCU and staff from NEN participated in this workshop which dealt with the various aspects of life skills like positive body image, self- awareness, assertiveness, communication skills, peer pressure, etc.
The valedictory function was attended by resource persons from Enfold Proactive Health Trust, Bangalore, Dr. (Ms). Sangeeta Saksena, and Joseph P Dominick, including the MLCU vice chancellor RG Lyngdoh, Registrar MLCU DD Ingty, participants and others.
The main objective of this workshop was to sensitise the teaching faculty of the university towards reproductive health and other necessary life skills.
Ibasara Thabah, faculty of Social Work Dept. MLCU, while talking about her experience in the workshop said, “Most of us (the participants) were not very enthusiastic about the workshop, but having participated in it I can now say that this has truly been a very enriching experience not just for me but for everyone who participated.”
She added that taboo topics like child sexual abuse and the likes were discussed openly and, “I truly believe that all of the participants can play a role in trying to help those who were or are being affected by sexual abuse no matter how small the helping hand is.”
