SHILLONG, OCT 28: In what could be termed as a really queer situation, the newly floated militant outfit Achik National Liberation Army (ANLA) has issued warning that it would take stern action against coal trucks carrying overloading in Garo hills region as this is in contravention of the Supreme Court ruling.
Many coal trucks disregard the nine tons limit set by the apex court and instead carry overloads of coals. But very few of these overloading trucks have been punished by the government authority who is supposed to ensure that coal trucks adhere to the Supreme Court ruling.
In fact in most cases the concerned department(s) is in cahoots with the coal barons and the trucks carrying overloading are not hauled up.
“The root-cause of dilapidated condition of the roads along the National Highway – 62 is due to the violation of the Supreme Court order restricting overloaded by trucks,” ANLA chairman Mikkim Achik said in a statement issued on Monday.
As per the ruling of the Supreme Court, trucks are directed to carry load not more than 9 tons, Achik asserted.
Achik said from November 15 all trucks should carry according to the prescribe load of the apex court and must cut their truck bodies in the original chasis warning that if any of the trucks are found to carry overload or their truck bodies is not designed in the original size serious action will be taken against them.
The militant leader said, “This is for the betterment of NH-62 road for the future.” – By Our Reporter
