Meghalaya to get new MSCW chairperson next month: Lyngdoh

Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the government will take a call based on recommendation of the search committee as well as individual applications for appointment of the new chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the department has already given a public advertisement on the matter and by the end of January the entire process will be closed.

He informed that the government has decided to open the door to even individuals, who have not been named by the search committee, so that nobody would feel that they have been denied an opportunity to apply (for the post).

“We were made aware by certain individuals that infact they considered themselves to be quite fit to hold the post but they were not named by the search committee. So we thought in all fairness let us open the door for everybody and then the government will take a call based on recommendation of the search committee as well as individual applications,” Lyngdoh said.

Asked, the minister said that the government will be in a position to select the new chairperson of the MSCW by the first week of February.
