SHILLONG, JAN 23: Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced that Meghalaya has been awarded National Award for Best State for Electoral Practises 2018.
The award which carries cash prize, plaque and citation, will be presented by the President of India to the state Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor at the national function of the National Voters Day in New Delhi on January 25.
Informing this, Kharkongor said the award is for overall performance in Election Management in criterias covering EP ratio, 18 19 registration, partnership building, conduct of elections, voter turnout and most notably innovative voter awareness, voter education and electoral participation.
He said Meghalaya efforts have especially been recognized for outstanding achievement in voters education and electoral participation and innovative measures.
Besides Meghalaya in the overall achievement in the States category, Karnataka and Chattisgarh have also been selected for the award.
