AMPATI, OCT 21: Along with the other parts of the country, police commemoration day was observed on Friday at Ampati, South West Garo hills with a solemn but large gathering at Ampati police station.
South West Garo Hills SP Ramesh Singh accompanied by additional deputy commissioner Mary T Sangma led the wreath laying ceremony in the memory of police personnel killed in the line of duty.
Later Singh addressing the gathering informed that on October 21, 1959, a group of Indian policemen led by Karam Singh was attacked by the Chinese Army at Hot Springs in North Eastern Ladakh where ten policemen were killed and seven taken prisoners.
He said the day has since been remembered and all Indian police units hold commemoration parades to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the service to the society and security of the nation.
The gathering was attended by officers from both the South West Garo Hills district police and the BSF stationed there.-From Our Correspondent
