SHILLONG, JAN 6: Meghalaya urban affairs department will soon be upgrading the MARTEN for conversion of the waste into energy, compose and the remaining to landfill. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will fund the upgradation project of the MARTEN which may cost between Rs 30 to 40 crore.
Urban affairs department principal secretary P Naik told this website that the up gradation aims at further disposing the waste in a more scientific manner. He said, “Soon we will be preparing the DPR, which again will be assisted and funded by the ADB.” He informed as soon as the DPR is completed it will be submitted to the ADB for its approval.
Naik informed that with the upgradation of the MARTEN some waste will be converted to energy, some as composed and the little that is left will be used as landfill. Under the upgraded MARTEN he said plastic too can be recycled.
Naik said the composed waste will be converted into fertilizer, some to energy and the little that will remain of the waste will be used to landfill. He also informed after the receiving the approval of the ADB, the project will be completed within two years time.- By Our Reporter
