Speaking on the occasion, Marcuise highlighted the importance of Govt subsidies being granted through various Govt. departments and urged the farmers dedicate themselves to their activities to enable them to increase production and income generation. Giving examples of vegetables cultivation in the plains of Simsang river in Williamnagar, stressed on the benefits of organic farming and encouraged the people of the area to take up cattle farming. He also urged the farmers to grab the opportunities being provided to them in the Kisan Mela.
East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, briefly highlighted the Central Govt’s farmer friendly budget and urged the farmers to bring a new green revolution thereby enabling them to double their income generation.
Delivering the key-note address, the Project Director, ATMA, Babli N Sangma, said that the Kisan Mela aims at capacity building of the farmers and educating them in using modern agricultural technologies and scientific farming.
On the day, Dr. Sengkan Marak, AH&Veterinary Officer, Songsak, highlighted the schemes and programs of AH & Veterinary Department and urged the livestock farmers to dedicate themselves to their activities.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the District Agriculture Officer, Sosten N Marak, informed the gathering that the Kisan Mela is being organized to create awareness among the farmers on the need to achieve “Doubling the Farmers’ Income by 2022” the target set by the Govt. of India.
