TURA, MAY 30: Unidentified miscreants abducted and killed the twenty six years old brother of a policeman late Thursday evening. His body was found from a picnic spot, on the outskirt of the town around 10:30 pm yesterday.
He disappeared from an auto stand in Tura Bazaar at around 7:20 pm on Thursday.
Gunshots were heard near a picnic spot — Pelga Dare, which led the police to begin the search. Pelga Dare is a popular tourist site, located about 12 km from Tura.
Police recovered the deceased along with his auto rickshaw. He hails from a locality in Tura. His head was smashed, severe injuries on his body and two bullets were retrieved.
However, police have refused to comment on the injuries, as they say that they will look into post mortem report.
West Garo Hills SP Mukesh Singh said, “We are investigating the matter and looking at all angles”. Terming the death as “unfortunate”, Singh said, “It is painful that a young man has lost his life in undesirable circumstances”.
His death comes a day after media had carried a letter of the breakaway faction of A’chik National Volunteer’s Council (ANVC-B) written to the union home ministry naming a cop for abusing Balsan Marak, an undertrial prisoner, who died on May 20 at a government hospital here.
Local newspapers had carried the news item prominently, naming the cop.
A close relative of the deceased, who did not wish to be identified said, “Media should have been responsible enough, while carrying such report. It has led to innumerable loss for the family. He was young and an ambitious person”.
“It is very unfortunate that when a militant kills a person, NGOs are not bothered to condemn or visit the bereaved family”, said a close friend of the deceased, who did not wished to be quoted. – By Our Reporter
