SHILONG,JUNE 18: Fulfilling the dreams of the residents of Professors’ Colony, Kharmalki, a motorable CC road was inaugurated by Meghalaya governor V.Shanmuganathan in the presence of urban affairs minister and local legislator M Ampareen Lyngdoh on Saturday.
Neil Antonio War, local MDC, officials and functionaries of various government departments, members of the Community Welfare Voluntary Group, Kharmalki, village elders as well as residents, young and old of the locality were also present.
The 180 metre long motorable CC road was constructed at a cost of 84 Lakhs with the project achieving successful completion in just 15 months’ time. A convergence approach was adopted for the project, whose construction having been jointly undertaken by the PWD department, Urban Affairs department and others.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that road connectivity, in addition to power and water, is another area that the government must put its thrust on.
The Governor emphasised on the importance of road connectivity for all round development adding that the headquarters of each of the north eastern states must be effectively linked in order to boost the tourism potential of the region.
Lyngdoh meanwhile thanked the residence of the locality for donating land required for the project and said that the project is a gift to the future generations considering the fact that the stretch was once a mere footpath with no proper drainage system.-By Our Reporter
