SHILLONG, FEB 13: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has threatened to close-down all the career guidance centers set-up by the state government by March if the several alleged anomalies which were detected are not addressed and corrected.A delegation of the KSU led by its president Daniel Khyriem met the state chief secretary PBO Warjri on Friday and apprised him of the discrepancies found in these centers which were set up under the Chief Minster Career Guidance Programme (CMCGP).
““We have decided to close down all the centres operating in the state by the beginning of March next month,” Khyriem told reporters after the meeting. He said what is the point of opening such centres if the faculties themselves are students and how will they teach the students.
“The issue was brought before the government two months ago and there is no concrete steps taken by the government to address the issue,” Khyriem said while pointing if such anomalies are not rectified then the career of the students will be at stake.
Khyriem further questioned how can the government take the issue so lightly despite being apprised of the problem, the career line of hundreds of students who are undergoing coaching classes of civil services examination under CMCGP are in stake.
Meanwhile, a student pursuing the course said that the students wanted that there should be checks and balances and informed that they have chartered a following list of demands to the chief secretary.
“The centres should be filled and verified with excellent teaching faculty. At periodic level student’s feedback should be taken by the district authorities. There should be a cut down on teaching duration and one teacher should not take multiple subjects.”
“We have been provided with notes either from Wikipedia and books, instead of providing the materials in advance,” he said adding, “With such anomalies taking place the number ofstudents has come down to mere fifteen from hundreds.”- By Our Reporter
